Attempt any one of the following two questions. 100 Marks

1. Read Block 4, Unit 4 (“Narrating Queer Lives”). As discussed in this Unit, the story “Lihaaf” by Ismat Chughtai has been narrated from the perspective of a child narrator. You can access the complete story here:

A. After reading the story, imagine the narrative from the perspective of any one of the alternate characters in the story (for instance, Begum Jaan or Rabbu). Create a first person narrative from this character’s point of view of the events in the story.

And

 B. In the second part of your response, discuss how the narrative you have created shows the significance of life writing in women’s lives by drawing upon your understanding of some of the issues raised in Block 4, Unit 4..

OR

2. Using any one life narrative discussed in any Unit of the course material, present a detailed analysis of the problem of truth and authenticity in the work selected by you. Read the Unit on “Corporeality” (Block 3, Unit 1) for a theoretical understanding of the issue of truth and authenticity in the context of life writing
